The issue I have on my hand is whether I should deal with RIAA material or not. Please cast your vote. It's located at the top of the sidebar on your right.
RIAA is an acronym for Recording Industry Association of America. I am asking whether if I should continue to uploading RIAA related material because there is a risk of getting my blog shut down.
Love your blog. I would probably just keep away from RIAA material. I don't think it's worth the trouble for you, especially since most people will be able to find it in other places if they want to. Anyway, keep putting up stuff I don't know! It's freaking awesome!
1. RIAA material usually sucks. 2. Not worth the hassle or a fight you aren't going to win. 3. They don't need bloggers to give others a heads up on music. They pay the radio to do it.
I voted "yay," but there are good arguments on the other side too. I don't want to see this blog shut down, but those who are saying "RIAA material sucks" either do not know what they are talking about or are just extremely narrow-minded about music.
The "Big Four" major labels which comprise the RIAA and the many "indies" under their corporate umbrellas put out a lot of good music in addition to all the crap. Let's not pretend that excluding RIAA material would not shrink the universe of good stuff you could put up here.
The real concerns are the risk of being shut down, and, more importantly, the possibility that the RIAA could cause legal problems for you (I have no idea if they are making a practice of suing bloggers personally, but I wouldn't put it past them).
Having said all that, I think it's very possible to maintain a quality music blog that's free of RIAA material. It's really a matter of risk vs. reward, and it's you who bears most of the risk, so if I were you I would not rely too heavily on the results of this poll; only you can decide what to do.
Whatever you decide, I'm grateful to you for this blog, and I hope it lasts as long as you want to keep doing it.
Although personally, I really can do without 98% of major label music. It just isn't interesting to me. To my ears, being RIAA owned kind of signals the ruination of a particular artist's work. Everybody can come up with examples of bands that sign on the majors and end up becoming the safety-scissors version of their old music. I can't come up with a single instance of a band actually making better music on a major than they did before. But that falls to individual tastes and interests.
Quit posting crappy RIAA material man, you are propagating junk.
promote indies
In rare case of decent albums, post the link in comment or link up to different blog/site (You should own secondary blog, a disposable one. That's where you put iffy links)
I don't really care for the RIAA stuff. It's a shame seeing other blogs shot down for it too, so I have no qualm's with you dumping it.
Fact is that you can always review it here and people can go download it via torrent anyways. There is ALWAYS a way to get hold of something that is so popular. It's much harder to get the indie stuff, therefore keep posting that?

I'd suggest that you skip posting any RIAA crap.
